Course content
Explain the specified requirements pertaining to continuous hazard identification and risk assessment
The explanation of the legal requirements to assess and respond to risk is consistent with specified requirements. The legal definitions pertaining to hazard identification and risk assessment are explained. The purpose of each type of hazard identification and risk assessment procedure is explained. The main components of a continuous hazard identification and risk assessment procedure are explained. The importance of identifying, dealing with and reporting hazards in terms of the consequences to occupational health, safety, environment and production is explained.
Prepare for hazard identification
The required personal protective equipment is available, in good working order, fit for purpose, and used correctly. Relevant documents to assist in identifying hazards are identified according to specified requirements.
Identify hazards and assess risks
Hazards are identified and risks are assessed according to specified requirements. Identified hazardous conditions are recorded. Interpersonal interaction is positive, consistent with specified requirements and promotes effective teamwork.
Initiate remedial and follow-up action
The significant risks that were assessed from hazardous conditions are dealt with according to specified requirements in terms of promptness and order of significance. Reports are completed and submitted according to specified requirements. Follow-up action is initiated and implemented according to specified requirements.
Assessment methods
We conduct a formative theoretical assessment at the beginning of the course to gauge the learner’s initial understanding (novices only). At the end of the training, a summative theoretical and practical application assessment is conducted, to find if the learner is competent; if not, additional developmental areas are identified and suggested.
