Introduction to Fire and Evacuation Marshal Roles and Responsibilities
Delving into the role of a Fire and Evacuation Marshal, we emphasize their key
responsibilities and the legal and regulatory requirements they must adhere to.
Understanding the critical role a Fire and Evacuation Marshal plays in ensuring
workplace safety is fundamental to our training.
Fire Safety Basics
Shifting our focus to Fire Safety Basics, we explore in depth the fire triangle and fire
tetrahedron, which form the foundational understanding of fire. We delve into the
intricacies of common causes of workplace fires, providing a comprehensive view of
potential hazards. Moreover, we analyse various strategies for fire prevention,
empowering participants with knowledge to prevent fire incidents effectively.
Fire Detection and Alarm Systems
We talk about the different types of fire detection systems, alarm systems, and their
components. We also highlight the importance of emergency lighting and exit signs, as
well as the necessity for regular inspection and maintenance of these systems.
Fire Fighting Equipment and Techniques
We examine various types of fire extinguishers and emphasize the proper use of fire
extinguishers through the PASS technique. Fire blankets and hose reels are also
discussed, along with guidelines for assessing whether to engage in firefighting or
initiate evacuation.
Evacuation Procedures and Drills
Evacuation Procedures and Drills are essential components of our training. We
emphasize the significance of having emergency evacuation plans in place, identifying
evacuation routes and exits, understanding assembly areas, and conducting
headcount procedures. We also provide guidance on how to effectively conduct and
evaluate evacuation drills.
Special Considerations and Procedures
We address unique situations such as assisting individuals with disabilities, handling
hazardous materials, and dealing with confined spaces and high-rise buildings.
Communication and Incident Management
Effective communication during emergencies is a crucial skill, and we cover it
extensively. We discuss how to liaise with emergency services, the importance of
incident reporting, and the value of post-incident reviews.
Practical Scenarios and Role-Playing
We offer practical scenarios and role-playing exercises. Through real-life case studies
and lessons learned, as well as simulated fire and evacuation scenarios, participants
gain hands-on experience. Group exercises and feedback sessions further enhance
their understanding and preparedness.
Assessment methods
We conduct a formative theoretical assessment at the beginning of the course to gauge the learner’s initial understanding (novices only). At the end of the training, a summative theoretical and practical application assessment is conducted, to find if the learner is competent; if not, additional developmental areas are identified and suggested.
