UNIT STANDARD: Not unit standard aligned
DESCRIPTION: This power tool safety course is designed for both novice and experienced operators who may be required to use a cut-off saw to safely cut PVC and HDPE pipes during the course of their duties in the working environment. Upon successful completion of the training programme, learners will be aware of the hazards of using a power tool, do the right things to protect themselves, know how to react if
an accident should occur and use commonsense and planning to prevent virtually any power tool accident from taking place.
DURATION: Full Training (Novice): 2 Days
Recertification Training/Evaluation: 1 Day
COURSE CONTENT: Safety Legislation
    We discuss the relevant legislation regarding pipe
    cutting with a cut-off saw as outlined in the Occupational     Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993.
Getting to know cut-off saws (main components)
Safety precautions
    We outline safety precautions regarding the operator,     the cut-off machine and the use of the cut-off machine.
Operational maintenance
    We discuss maintenance, repair and storing the cut-off     machine, mounting an abrasive wheel, refuelling,     checking the sparkplug, air filters and adjusting the     carburettor.
