CATEGORY: DESCRIBE THE FUNCTIONS OF THE WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE
UNIT STANDARD: 259622 [SAQA]
DESCRIPTION: Each organisation is required by law, under section 17 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, to have one or more Health and Safety Representatives. The representative is elected by colleagues to represent them, in consultation with the employer, on matters relating to health and safety issues in the workplace. The course focuses on the responsibility of the representative as well as the employer. Learners who are found competent against this unit standard will be tasked with ensuring health and safety in the working environment.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The company and learners must meet the conditions of the training requirements before theory training can be given, as well as the following:

Communication at NQF Level 1 or equivalent and
mathematical literacy at NQF Level 1 or equivalent,
assumed to be in place.
