FULL TITLE: OPERATE A WATER CART
FIELD: Physical Planning and Construction
SUBFIELD: Physical Planning, Design and Management
UNIT STANDARD: 262764 [SAQA]
NQF LEVEL: 02 (8 credits)
DESCRIPTION: Our operate a water cart course is designed for both novice and refresher training requirments, and provides operators skills and knowledge to operate a water cart in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with national guidelines. The unit covers planning and preparation for work, the safe and effective operation of the water cart for a range of tasks.

Operators have to perform of a defined range of skilled operations, usually within a range of broader related activities involving known routines, methods and procedures, where discretion and judgement is required.
DURATION: Full Training (Novice): 5 Days
Recertification Training/Evaluation: 1 Day
Remedial Training: 1 Day
COURSE CONTENT: Basic mechanical appreciation
    We outline the engine lubrication system, cooling     system, fuel system, electrical system, hydraulic     system, transmission and drive train, automatic     transmission and torque converter, torque converters,     transmission and the brake system.
National Road Traffic Act
    We take the learners through fundamental rules, lights,     emergency red triangles, reckless, negligent and     inconsiderate driving, alcohol and drugs, use of roads     and freeways, divided roads, general speed limits,     passing and overtaking, crossing roads and lanes,     hindering traffic flow, traffic lanes, stopping, parking,     conveying goods, pedestrians, collisions/accidents,     damage to the road, emergency vehicles and general     duties of drivers and passengers.

Defensive driving – the system of vehicle control
    We explain the S I P D E process and application of the     system of vehicle control.
Pre-trip inspections
    We explain why a driver must prepare the vehicle     combination for a trip, preparing for a trip, know the     vehicle on approach, pre-trip inspection – exterior,     pre-trip inspection – interior, starting procedure –     manual transmission, shutdown procedure.
Accident procedures and prevention
    What is an accident? Can accidents be avoided/
    prevented?
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The company and learners must meet the conditions of the training requirements before theory training can be given, as well as the following:

Heavy Vehicle National Driver’s License assumed to be     in place.
